Assemblywoman Cathleen Galgiani Honored with Civil Justice Leadership Award

Award recognizes Galgiani for her dedication to balanced civil justice reform

SACRAMENTO—The Civil Justice Association of California (CJAC) today announced that Assemblywoman Cathleen Galgiani (17th District) is a recipient of the Civil Justice Leadership Award for her work in the 2006-2007 legislative session.

“Assemblywoman Galgiani’s commitment to balance and fairness in California’s civil justice system is good for consumers, taxpayers, and businesses of all kinds,” said John H. Sullivan, the association’s President.

During the legislative session, she authored a new law to reduce fraud in the Medi-Cal system. She worked with CJAC to sponsor workshops on ADA access lawsuits in order to educate businesses on how to comply with the ADA in order to improve access and reduce lawsuits.

“I am honored to receive this recognition from the Civil Justice Association. I have been pleased to work with this organization that is dedicated to reducing costly litigation for business and government by providing reliable information regarding complex and ever-changing law, regulation and court decisions,” said Assemblywoman Galgiani. “The cost of litigation is ultimately passed on to consumers and citizens and therefore is costly for all of us. CJAC encourages prevention before punishment by helping small business owners and government entities understand their responsibilities and their liabilities.” Assemblywoman Galgiani’s district covers the counties of Merced, San Joaquin and Stanislaus.
