John Frith, Director of Communications and Research

John Frith, APR, has joined the Civil Justice Association of California as Director of Communications and Research, handling media relations, social media outreach, and other communications efforts for the association.

He previously spent nine years as director and then vice president of public affairs for the California Building Industry Association, the trade association for the homebuilding industry. There, he directed statewide public affairs campaigns, oversaw one of the best trade publications in the West, and was involved in marketing and PR efforts for one of the West Coast’s largest trade shows.

Before that, Frith served as the campaign manager and press secretary for Congressman Elton Gallegly of Ventura County, was appointed public affairs director for the state Department of Housing and Community Development by Gov. Pete Wilson, and later served in the same capacity for the Integrated Waste Management Board. He began his career as a political reporter in Southern California, working for several papers including the Ventura County Star.

He also is one of some 5,000 public relations professionals nationally who have earned the Accredited in Public Relations designation from the Public Relations Society of America, the profession’s only national post-graduate certification program.

He earned a bachelor’s degree in journalism from the University of Southern California.
